Reebok Presents: A Late Evening Jog With Kendrick Lamar
Last week, Kendrick Lamar’s highly anticipated album To Pimp A Butterfly took the hip hop world by complete storm. In a month filled with A-list rappers dropping their albums (Action Bronson and Wale, to name a few), Kendrick even stole Kanye West’s record for the highest rated rap album of the decade. Not too bad for a kid from Compton. In honor of To Pimp A Butterfly’s massive success, Kendrick Lamar partnered with Reebok to host a once-in-a-lifetime jog through his hometown of Los Angeles.
Hundreds of runners, all rocking Reebok’s ZPump fusion shoe, gathered at the parking lot at Sunset and Hilldale for a jog. However, they had no idea that Kendrick was going to perform. Then Kendrick rolled up on a 16-wheeler flatbed with a full band, giving the runners the most fire soundtrack for their evening jog. Ever.
As the truck and the large group of runners rolled by, more and more bystanders realized what was happening. “It was amazing,” said Tim Larew, one of the bystanders who witnessed the event. “He had thousands of people gathered on one of the busiest streets in Hollywood. It was special, haven’t felt anything so communal in a long time.”
The runners finished at the Reebok Lounge, located at 8462 Melrose Avenue. Kendrick then hosted an after party as a cool down for all of the runners. “Reebok and I have shared a goal to inspire,” said Kendrick. “So helping people to get pumped through music and fitness was perfect– performing in such a unique way, creating a real experience and encouraging people through a run in my hometown of L.A.”
The Reebok ZPump fusion shoe dropped on March 10 and can be purchased at their online store.
