Lois Lane - Girlfriend of Kal-El, aka Superman/Clark Kent
First Appearance: Action Comics #1 (June 1938)
Lois Lane and Clark Kent are the epitome of interoffice relationships. You know, where you fall in love with your co-worker who is actually an alien in disguise who uses their super abilities to protect the Earth? It’s normal office romance stuff. Okay, not really. Even though it is often imitated — you’ll see what we mean in the next entry — this romance is anything but typical. Lois is by far the most well-known superhero girlfriend in history. She’s bold, she’s brash, and she’s a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter. At the end of the day, she’s strong enough for a man, but made for a Kryptonian.
Coolest Version of the Character:
The Daily Planet reporter has been played by many fine actresses throughout the years. In the realm of live-action, she has most notably been played by Amy Adams in Man of Steel, Erica Durance in Smallville, Kate Bosworth in Superman Returns, Teri Hatcher in Lois & Clark, and Margot Kidder in Superman I, II and III. Durance and Hatcher have clocked the most time as Lois, playing her in their respective TV series. They were both given ample time to deeply develop the character and romance with Clark. So much time, in fact, that Clark and Lois got married on both shows, but the love/hate dynamic they were able to build upon during Smallville’s run makes Durance the coolest, not to mention she’s also the hottest, Lois Lane.
Version You Might Not Want to Date:
In DC’s multiverse, the Earth-Two version of Lois Lane marries Clark Kent, but dies mysteriously. She returns as a sinister Black Lantern and kidnaps Martha Kent with the intent to slay her. Talk about not getting along with your mother in-law.
