Holy Hip-Hop! by Alex Melamid
Back in 2008, Alexander Melamid set up shop in the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit to display some pretty amazing works of art. Using icons from the world of hip-hop music, Melamid created 12 life-size paintings to capture the larger-than-life personas of the subjects in the paintings. The pieces themselves were actually done over the span of two years, ranging from 2003 to 2005, so of course Kanye West and 50 Cent would be included in the mix. A few other notable faces in hip-hop that made it into the series include Reverend Run, Marc Ecko and Russell Simmons, among others.
