Vans Classics Brings Us Back to the ’80s in the Latest Van Doren Lineup
Season after season, the Vans Classics Van Doren Collection pushes reissued prints from Vans’ early days. Their resurrection of past designs serves as a tribute to the brand’s founding family and inceptive ethos.
The Fall/Winter 2014 iteration kept things simple with vintage cheetah, camp, and checkered prints, and the last Holiday collection presented some throwback Geo Tribe and skull graphics. This time around, designers dug through the Vans archives and pulled a handful of designs straight from the ’80s.
The four-piece line comes stacked with show-stopping retro prints. While the Sk8-Hi Reissue is done up in the retro Tropic Rays motif, illustrated sea creatures take over the Era. The Era is also done up with the vibrant blue Marble graphic, while the familiar ’80s Lips motif is scattered around the upper of the Classic Slip-On. The designs are representative of 1980s youth culture, channeling the carefree skate lifestyle of that time. Though dated, the classic patterns still fit right in with the contemporary skate style scene.
As always, each classic silhouette comes equipped with metal eyelets, a padded tongue, and the Vans signature waffle outsole.
The fabrics were sourced from longtime Vans cohort and textile supplier Hoffman Fabrics. The intergenerational company is based in Mission Viejo, California and has been crafting hand-painted designs for 90 years.
The Spring 2015 Van Doren Collection is available now at select Vans stockists and well as their online shop. The sneakers retail from $55 to $65.
